The purpose of this paper is to show how to extract the drainage network from the SAREX project RADAR image using mathematical morphology tools. The problem is to find a mapping from a grey level image into a binary image that exhbits the drainage. The selected region is from a test site in Acre, SW Amazonia, Brasil. In RADAR images, the drainage network appears with high contrast and well defined shape. Mathematical morphology is a theory for spatial structure analysis and aims here at analyzing the shape and the forms of the drainage network. This analysis is a based on the set and lattice theories. This paper uses the MMach, a mathematical morphology toolbox for the KHOROS system. A comparison between visual analysis and presented method is developed. |
